I've secretly wanted a Karmann Ghia for quite some time now and I've been looking off-and-on for about a year now. Last week, I finally decided to look at some cars just for the heck of it. I really had no intention of buying anything but I couldn't get the two-toned green/white Karmann Ghia out of my mind. Yesterday, I was frustrated at work and figured I would let off some steam by doing something crazy like buy a car. That green/white was still posted on thesamba.com but this time, they lowered the price by a considerable amount. I figured that I would put in a low-ball offer and if they accepted, then it was meant to be. She counter-offered by a few hundred dollars more than my offer. We had a deal.
Test drove it one more time to be sure. Paid the cash and it was officially mine!
I stepped out the front door eager to drive my new classic home.
The car would not start! I had accidentally left the headlights on after the test drive and while we were signing papers. What a fortuitous beginning! F**k.
A quick push-start and I was off. Both windows were rolled down. Had my arm hanging out the window. I was cool!
I was still getting used to the clutch and as I was in the left lane getting into the freeway, I stalled the car. Cranked the ignition and it wouldn't start. F**k, again!! A line of cars was gathering behind me.
Called Mom who was behind me in her car to push start the Karmann Ghia, so she hops out of her car and start to physically push. Haha! No, Mom, push with the car!
The Ghia started and off I went. She cruised easily at 60 MPH. I could've gone to 70 MPH with no problems but I didn't want to push my luck.
